By the end of The Magicians Season 3, Alice Quinn was left in a precarious situation. The only main character left with her memories intact after attempting to destroy magic, she was jailed and left helpless in the Library.

At San Diego Comic-Con, we spoke with Alice’s portrayer, Olivia Taylor Dudley, during a roundtable interview about the character’s journey so far and what to expect for her in Season 4.

“When we find Alice in Season 4, she’s in jail — we’re picking up right where we left off. She’s going through a lot of regret, and it’s kind of a redemption story for her this season,” Dudley said.

Alice has changed significantly over the course of the series, and Season 4 will be no different.

“Last year, she was a lost soul trying to figure out who she is and never figured it out. This season, she’s given in to a lot of realities and the fact that magic isn’t going anywhere and magic is what it is,” she continued.

“From the get-go, she’s trying to figure out how to get out of jail and how to save her friends. We’re going to see a different version of Alice this season — I really like to switch her up as much as possible.”

With a fairly large ensemble cast — and one that sprawls multiple worlds and timelines — certain characters on The Magicians rarely get the chance to interact. In particular, Dudley said she wishes she could share more scenes with Summer Bishil, who plays Margo.

“I miss working with Summer,” Dudley said. “Her and I had some scenes in Season 1 together, and I thought that the chemistry between Alice and Margo was really interesting. They’re two alphas but two very different kinds of alphas.”
