Riverdale Season 3: Vanessa Morgan and Madelaine Petsch on What’s Next for Choni [Video]
While attending San Diego Comic-Con, we had the chance to speak with Riverdale stars Vanessa Morgan and Madelaine Petsch during a roundtable interview about their favorite Season 2 moments, Cheryl’s transformation, and what’s to come for Choni in Season 3.
Cheryl “Bombshell” Blossom was a fan fave since the early days of Season 1, and viewers have only grown to love her more.
Season 2 saw massive growth and character development for the once shallow, cruel, and vaguely unhinged Vixen. It also saw the beginning of one of the show’s most popular ships: Cheryl and Toni, affectionately known as “Choni.”
Petsch was very careful to start off the interview by informing everyone of the correct pronunciation of their ship name: “It’s ‘sho-knee.’ I don’t want it to sound like ‘cho.’ I feel like ‘sho-knee‘ has a nice ring to it!”

There wasn’t much that the two could spoil (yet) for their characters in Season 3, but Petsch said that the couple was “going strong” so far in the early episodes.
“We’ve got a cute relationship. Very happy. It’s the first time you see Cheryl genuinely happy,” she said.
“And Toni lets her guards down. We both let our guards down,” Morgan added.

The Riverdale Season 2 Finale saw Cheryl help protect her girlfriend and the Serpents and later become a member of the gang herself, complete with an instantly iconic red Serpent jacket.
While things are going well for the two romantically, Petsch teased that Cheryl might wind up on something of a power trip in the new season.
“Cheryl now has this weird dilemma where she’s gotten this high off power. Like she’s feeling, ‘Oh, I’m a Serpent, I’ve got a girlfriend, I’m feeling so energized.’ So she starts trying to make a power play through the rest of her life in different areas,” Petsch said. “She’s going through this struggle of trying to take over power in places she maybe shouldn’t. And I think that will be her biggest downfall.”
