Wynonna Earp Review: I See a Darkness (Season 2 Episode 10)

Reviews, Wynonna Earp

Wynonna Earp Season 2 Episode 10, “I See a Darkness,” eliminates any doubt that Rosita, Nedley, and Waverly are part of the team, whatever the team is called. Team Wynonna? Purgatory’s Black Badge Division? The team needs a name.

Anyways, everyone proves just how far they will go for Nicole. She’s family, and when family is in danger, everyone else steps up. It’s great to see everyone show their dedication and love by undergoing excruciating pain.

Next time I vote we have some other way to prove loyalty. I don’t like seeing people I love in pain.

Nedley: You think this is my first demon rodeo? Did you know we had an actual demon rodeo?

Seriously, can we just take a minute to appreciate the level of BAMF that is Nedley? He is the person I’d want protecting my town, and I’d trust him to keep all my secrets.

He’s been a character that’s on the outskirts, especially lately, but he’s very much in the know about what’s going on. The amount of trust Wynonna has in him is surprising but in the best way. She trusted him to protect the most important thing to her (that’s, you know, a thing and not a person).

The entire fate of the world was left in his hands — well, in his coffee mug. Wynonna could have hidden it herself, but instead, she placed her faith in someone else. I’d love to learn more about their relationship and maybe reveal more reasons as to why she trusts him so much.

While Nicole’s wife, Shae, does not end up posing a threat to Wayhaught, her presence does not serve much of a purpose.

She’s a very small glimpse into Nicole’s past, but that’s about it. Her main purpose, it seems, is to guilt Waverly into believing that she does not really know Nicole at all.

Honestly, we could have done without Shae, unless she somehow serves a purpose in the following episode. I’m assuming the local law enforcement has all their allergies on file, a file that her physicians should read before treating her.

There are so many things going on in this episode, and the time could have been better spent elsewhere. I will say, the fact that Shae admits to her marriage to Nicole not being real is a huge relief. We did not need that kind of drama.

But then, why are Nicole and Shae still married? What’s your opinion on Shae?

As soon as Beth presents the option to Waverly, it is obvious that Waverly is going to betray Wynonna to save Nicole’s life. Nicole is the woman Waverly loves, of course she will do anything to save her.

It’s not as if this big secret deal was going to be presented and then not used. However, it’s unexpected that Dolls encourages Waverly to give up the seal for Nicole’s life.

He’s always been a “mission first” kind of guy.

Most recent example is him forcing Wynonna to kill the revenant who is behind the giant Purgatory nap on Wynonna Earp Season 2 Episode 6. You would think Dolls would have put the apocalypse above Nicole’s life, but he doesn’t.

Instead, Dolls puts Nicole’s life, Waverly’s happiness, above the mission. It’s unclear if he does it because he likes Nicole or because of his close friendship with Waverly, but either way, Dolls says screw the apocalypse, save your girl (basically).

Dolls’ support of handing over the seal makes the predicability of the betrayal a bit more tolerable. Widow!Beth’s deal clues us in that a Waverly and Wynonna rift is coming, but a Dolls and Wynonna fight is surprising.

Of course, Wynonna is erased before we can really dive into that fight, but hopefully, when she returns, Dolls encouraging handing over the final seal will not be forgotten. This fight could be an unexpected and interesting way to explore Dolls and Wynonna’s relationship more.

Stray Thoughts:

  • Waverly and Nicole absolutely destroyed me.
  • I’ll never be over Nicole asking Wynonna to pull the plug, if it came to that.
  • What did Ewan mean when he said Dolls was taken? Like as a baby?
  • As creepy as she is, I love all of Widow!Beth’s interactions with Waverly.
  • I have zero theories as how a plate can be a weapon. I assume we aren’t throwing it at the widows’ heads.
